Apple Today - 1/27/2016 (AAPL)

Good Morning,

NASDAQ Futures are down 20 with -18 Fair Value, Dow Futures are down 62 on another huge day of earnings and FOMC announcement. Futures were worse earlier, particularly the NASDAQ, presumably "soured" by AAPL earnings, and have been improving as we approach the open, though still in the red.

Asian markets closed mostly up today. Hong Kong closed up 1.02%, Japan gained 2.72% and China dropped 0.52%. European markets are nearly flat again today. The UK is currently up 0.12%, Germany is down 0.03% and France is down 0.18%.

Commodities are mixed this morning. Oil is down 1.91%, natural gas is up 1.39% and gold is down 0.03%. Unleaded gas is down 2.49% and heating oil is up 0.41%. Metals are up, except silver. Meat is up. Coffee and soybeans are up while cocoa, cotton, corn and wheat are down.

Global stocks, dollar struggle ahead of Fed as oil falters. AAPL is down over 3% this morning on "concerns of iPhone sales slowing" despite setting a new US quarterly record of $18.4 billion.

Sprint (S) is up nearly 20% this morning on improved outlook. Rambus (RMBS) reported Q4 earnings yesterday afternoon and is up 8% in pre-market. Coach (COH) reported this morning and is up nearly 5%, Johnson & Johnson (JNJ) is up under 1% after reporting this morning. Other earnings reports include Lockheed Martin (LMT) which is down over 3% and 3M (MMM) which is up in pre-market.

This afternoon after the bell, look for earnings from Apple (AAPL), Black Box (BBOX), CA (CA), Ethan Allen (ETH), AT&T (T), VMware (VMW) and United States Steel Corporation (X). Tomorrow before the open, The Boeing Company (BA), Capital One (COF), Cliffs Natural Resources (CLF), EMC Corporation (EMC), General Dynamics Corporation (GD), Hess Corporation (HES), Novartis (NVS) and Tupperware Brands (TUP) are expected to report.

Highly anticipated Apple earnings were announced yesterday afternoon and initially AAPL gained a few points. Although Apple set a new record of $18.4 billion, iPhone sales and revenue were "below expectations". It didn't last long and AAPL dropped below 100 and is down over 3% this morning. AT&T (T) also reported yesterday and is down 2- 3%.

This afternoon after the bell, look for earnings from Ameriprise Financial (AMP), Cavium Networks (CAVM), Cimpress (CMPR), Cirrus Logic (CRUS), Citrix Systems (CTXS), Discover Financial Services (DFS), Dolby Laboratories (DLB), eBay (EBAY), Facebook (FB), InvenSense (INVN), Juniper Networks (JNPR), Las Vegas Sands (LVS), Silicon Graphics (SGI), SanDisk Corporation (SNDK), Tetra Tech (TTEK), Texas Instruments (TXN) and Vertex Pharmaceuticals (VRTX)

Tomorrow before the open, Abbott Laboratories (ABT), Alibaba (BABA), Bristol-Myers Squibb (BMY), Caterpillar (CAT), Celgene (CELG), Cypress Semiconductor (CY), Quest Diagnostics (DGX), Ford Motor Company (F), 1-800 FLOWERS.COM (FLWS), Harley-Davidson (HOG), The Hershey Company (HSY), JetBlue Airways (JBLU), L-3 Communications (LLL), McCormick & Company (MKC), Northrop Grumman (NOC), Potash Corporation (POT), Raytheon (RTN), The Sherwin-Williams Company (SHW), Stanley Black & Decker (SWK), Thermo Fisher Scientific (TMO), Time Warner Cable (TWC) and Under Armour (UA) are expected to report.

Leading in to the announcement, AAPL opened at 99.5 and traded in a relativley narrow range all day, yet on very high volume, ending the day up slightly, 0.55%. Aside from a post-opening dip to 98.07 on high volume, AAPL spent most of the time hovering around the 99 to 100 area, reaching a modest high of 100.88 on high volume and ending intra-day up 55 cents at 99.99. In after-hours, during the announcement, AAPL initially spiked up towards 103 on huge volume but immediately settled back to 100, then over the next few hours crumbled down towards 97, ending after-hours trading down 2.57 to 97.42

This morning in pre-market, AAPL opened down at 97.2 and continued declining to test 96 before bouncing back slightly on high volume. AAPL is currently down 3.24 at 96.75 as we approach the open.
