Apple Today - 4/21/2016 (AAPL)

Good Morning,

NASDAQ Futures are up 5 with +8 Fair Value, S&P Futures are up 2 with +4 Fair Value and Dow Futures are up 8 as we combine a plethora of mid-week earnings with a busy day of economic data. Futures were up sharply this morning and dipped after 2am, turning red briefly around 3:30am and again before 6:30am before recovering somewhat as we await the open.

Asian markets closed mostly up today. China dropped 0.66%, Hong Kong went up 1.82% and Japan gained 2.7%. European markets are down today. The UK is currently down 0.65%, Germany is down 0.33% and France is down 0.65%.

Commodities are mostly up this morning. Oil is up 0.2%, natural gas is down 0.1% and gold is up 0.92%. Unleaded gas is up 0.67% and heating oil is up 0.35%. Metals are up. Meat is mixed. Cocoa, coffee, corn, wheat and soybeans are up while cotton is down.

World stocks gain along with oil, clock ticks down to ECB.

Yum! Brands, Inc. (YUM) reported Q1 earnings yesterday afternoon beating estimates and is up over 3% in pre-market. American Express Company (AXP) also announced Q1 earnings beating earnings anr revenue estimates and is up over 3%. On the other hand, Qualcomm Inc. (QCOM) reported Q2 earnings that topped estimates but guided lower for Q3 and is down nearly 3%. Mattel, Inc. (MAT) announced a Q1 earnings miss and is down over 6% in pre-market. Las Vegas Sands Corp. (LVS) reported Q1 earnings that missed expectations and is down over 7%. Citrix Systems, Inc. (CTXS) announced a Q1 earnings beat and better than expected outlook for Q2 is up nearly 8%. F5 Networks, Inc. (FFIV) reported Q2 earnings that beat expectation and a $1 billion share buyback and is up nearly 4%. Chicago Bridge & Iron Company (CBI) reported a Q4 miss and is down over 2%.

General Motors Company (GM) reported Q1 earnings this morning that topped expectations and is up over 3%. Verizon Communications (VZ) announced Q1 earnings that met expectations and expects pressure on Q2 and is down over 2%.

This afternoon after the bell, look for earnings from Hanesbrands Inc. (HBI), Boston Beer Co. (SAM), Skechers USA Inc. (SKX), Advanced Micro Devices, Inc. (AMD), Briggs & Stratton Corporation (BGG), E*TRADE Financial Corporation (ETFC), Alphabet Inc. (GOOG), Microsoft Corporation (MSFT), Starbucks Corporation (SBUX), Schlumberger Limited (SLB) and Visa Inc. (V).

Tomorrow morning, Volvo AB ADR B (VOLVY), American Airlines Group (AAL), Caterpillar Inc. (CAT), General Electric Company (GE), Honeywell International, Inc. (HON), Kimberly-Clark Corporation (KMB), McDonald's Corporation (MCD) and SunTrust Banks, Inc. (STI) are expected to report.

The AAPL spring compressed to nearly 106 before releasing back up above 108 in an over 2-point range jump yesterday, though ultimately slipping from the highs yet holding onto a modest gain of 0.21% on moderate volume. AAPL opened at 106.66 to moderately high volume and made a fleeting attempt to rise but quickly dropped to the intra-day low of 106.06 at 9:44am on moderately high volume. Right after bottoming, AAPL launched up to turn green and went on to recover 107 and the mid-107 area within 30 minutes. AAPL subsequently dipped slightly but regained momentum and went on to set a high of 108.09 early in the afternoon at 12:46 on moderate volume. After setting the intra-day high, AAPL returned to the upper-107 area for most of the afternoon before slipping down to the lower-107 area in the last half hour on moderate volume. Despite the slide, AAPL ended the day up 22 cents at 107.13 and declined an additional 8 cents in after-hours to 107.05.

This morning in pre-market, AAPL picked up where it left off yesterday and saw some recovery later in the morning, making a high attempt at 107.53 at 8:37am before settling down a little. AAPL is currently up 19 cents at 107.32 as we approach the open.
