NASDAQ Futures are down 6 with +5 Fair Value, S&P Futures are down 2 with +3 Fair Value and Dow Futures are down 19 as the earnings deluge keeps rolling in and the FOMC announcement from yesterday is digested. It's also a fairly busy day for economic data with jobless claims and natural gas inventory due out this morning, among others. Futures were up in early morning, peaked just after 3:30am and slid down sharply into negative terrirory before bouncing slightly just before 8am are still slightly red as we await the open.
Asian markets ended mostly down. China went up 0.08%, Hong Kong dropped 0.20% and Japan fell 1.13%. European markets are mostly down. The UK is down 0.14, Germany is up 0.03% and France is down 0.10%.
Commodities are mostly up this morning. Oil is up 0.31%, natural gas is up 0.08% and gold is up 1.15%. Unleaded gas is up 0.73% and heating oil is up 0.32%. Metals are up strong. Meat is mostly down. Cocoa, coffee, corn, wheat and soybeans are up while cotton is down.
Markets to open flat after Fed leaves rates unchanged. US jobless claims climbed from a 3-month low last week. Oracle to buy NetSuite in $9.3 billion deal.
NETGEAR, Inc. (NTGR) reported Q2 earnings that beat expectations and is up nearly 7% in pre-market. Limelight Networks, Inc. (LLNW) announced an earnings loss but met expectations and is up nearly 8%. Whole Foods Market, Inc. (WFM) announced Q3 earnings that met expectations but offered a weaker outlook and is down nearly 5%. Groupon, Inc. (GRPN) reported Q2 earnings and revenue that beat expectations and is up nearly 25.5%. The Cheesecake Factory Incorporated (CAKE) reported Q2 earnings that beat estimates and is up nearly 1.5%. Chicago Bridge & Iron Company (CBI) announced Q2 earnings that missed expectations and is down nearly 2.5%. Cirrus Logic, Inc. (CRUS) reported Q1 earnings that beat forecasts and is up 12.5%. Cimpress N.V. (CMPR) beat expectations for Q4 and is down slightly. Facebook (FB) hit a new high after reporting Q2 earnings that crushed expectations and is up over 4% in pre-market. Vertex Pharmaceuticals Incorporated (VRTX) announced a Q2 earnings loss with light revenue and is down nearly 1.5%. Legg Mason Inc. (LM) beat expectations for Q1 and is up over 6%.
ARIAD Pharmaceuticals, Inc. (ARIA) reported Q2 earnings and is up nearly 5.5% in pre-market. L-3 Communications Holdings Inc. (LLL) announced Q2 earnings that beat expectations and is up slightly. ConocoPhillips (COP) reported a Q2 earnings loss that missed expectations and is up over 0.5%. Cliffs Natural Resources Inc. (CLF) announced Q2 earnings that beat expectations and is up over 4%. MasterCard Incorporated (MA) announced Q2 earnings that beat estimates and is up over 1%. Raytheon Company (RTN) reported Q2 results that topped forecasts and is up nearly 2%. NetSuite Inc. (N) also reported and is up over 18% on an Oracle buyout.
This afternoon after the bell, look out for earnings from Columbia Sportswear Company (COLM), Rovi Corporation (ROVI), Ingram Micro Inc. (IM), Starz (STRZA), Alphabet Inc. (GOOG), Amazon.com, Inc. (AMZN) and Western Digital Corporation (WDC).
Tomorrow morning before the open, Spirit Airlines (SAVE), Ruth's Hospitality Group, Inc. (RUTH), Acadia Healthcare Co. (ACHC), Bloomin' Brands (BLMN), Anheuser-Busch Inbev SA/NV (BUD), Revlon, Inc. (REV), Xerox Corporation (XRX), Barclays PLC (BCS), United Parcel Service, Inc. (UPS), CBOE Holdings (CBOE), Chevron Corporation (CVX), Phillips 66 (PSX), Exxon Mobil Corporation (XOM), UBS Group AG (UBS), Merck & Co Inc. (MRK), Cigna Corp. (CI) are expected to report.
AAPL shot up 6.58% on colossal volume yesterday after announcing earnings on Tuesday afternoon. AAPL opened up at 104.25 to enormous volume and immediately set an intra-day high of 104.34 on huge volume before gravitating to 104 within minutes and hanging out at 104 until shortly after 10am. AAPL subsequently "gently" arc dipped to 103 before lunchtime and skated on the 103-line, setting an intra-day low of 102.75 into lunch and remained 103-area until later on relatively moderate volume in the afternoon when AAPL pushed into the upper-103 area on relatively light volume until shortly after 3pm when AAPL dipped again to 103 on high volume. AAPL ended the day up 6.28 cents at 102.95 and gained 48 more cents in after-hours to 103.43.
This morning in pre-market, AAPL picked up higher with yesterday's after-hours and in conjunction with Futures and gravitated back towards 103 as Futures declined. AAPL is currently up 11 cents at 103.06 as we approach the open.
Classic max-pain is 97.5.
