Apple Today 10/27/2016 Event (AAPL)

Good Morning,

NASDAQ Futures are up 16 with +16 Fair Value, S&P Futures are up 6 with +6 Fair Value and Dow Futures are up 30 as Apple Inc. (AAPL) is in the center stage once again with a new product event on this "double feature" week. Everything is "going big" today, the earnings calendar is overstuffed with multiple metrics including Jobless Claims, Durable Goods and Pending Home Sales this morning. Earnings is in high-gear as a host of companies are reporting while other titans, including Alphabet Inc. (GOOG) and Amazon.com, Inc. (AMZN) are anxiously pending this afternoon. Tesla (TSLA) is rallying over 4.5% on earnings after beating expectations with a profitable quarter. Seems just about the only thing not ramping up this morning is Twitter's (TWTR) headcount which is going to be reduced by 9%, however TWTR stock is also up nearly 4.5% this morning. Futures were slightly lower in early morning and popped at 4am, dipped shortly after and popped back up again just before 6:40am and are near the highs as we approach the open.

Asian markets ended down. China went down 0.63%, Japan fell 0.32% and Hong Kong led the decline, down 0.83%. European markets are down. The UK is down 0.30%, France is down 0.25% and Germany is leading the decline, down 0.47%.

Commodities are mixed this morning. Oil is up 0.39%, natural gas is up 1.42% and gold is up 0.21%. Unleaded gas is up 0.50% and heating oil is up 0.48%. Metals are up. Meats are mostly up. Coffee, cotton, corn and wheat are up while cocoa and soybeans are down.

Applications for US unemployment benefits fall to 258,000. Orders for US capital goods decline by most since February. Twitter to cut 9% of workforce. Qualcomm to buy NXP for $38 billion in largest chip deal.

Tesla Motors (TSLA) reported Q3 earnings yesterday afternoon that beat expectations and is up over 4.5% in pre-market. Groupon, Inc. (GRPN) is down nearly 8% after posting a Q3 loss of 6 cents per share. Buffalo Wild Wings, Inc. (BWLD) reported Q3 results that topped expectations and is up nearly 5%. The Cheesecake Factory Incorporated (CAKE) is up nearly 9.5% after beating Q3 estimates. F5 Networks, Inc. (FFIV) announced Q4 results that beat estimates and is up nearly 7%. NXP Semiconductors (NXPI) is up over 2% after missing Q3 profit forecasts but entering a $47 billion deal to be bought by Qualcomm.

Ford Motor Company (F) reported Q3 earnings this morning with mixed results and is down slightly in pre-market. Nokia Corporation (NOK) announced a Q3 loss and is down nearly 7.5%. L-3 Communications Holdings Inc. (LLL) reported Q3 earnings this morning with mixed results and is down nearly 0.5%. Travelzoo Inc (TZOO) is up over 4.5% after posting a Q3 profit of 12 cents. ConocoPhillips (COP) reported a narrower than expected Q3 loss and is up over 1%. Dow Chemical Co. (DOW) announced Q3 results with a profit of 63 cents per share and is up over 1.5%.

This afternoon after the bell, look out for earnings from Cardtronics, Inc. (CATM), Deckers Outdoor Corporation (DECK), Hanesbrands Inc. (HBI), Pixelworks, Inc. (PXLW), Molina Healthcare, Inc. (MOH), Expedia, Inc. (EXPE), Twitter, Inc. (TWTR), Columbia Sportswear Company (COLM), MoneyGram International, Inc. (MGI), VeriSign, Inc. (VRSN), Baidu, Inc. (BIDU), Chicago Bridge & Iron Company (CBI), Starz (STRZA), Alphabet Inc. (GOOG), Aflac Incorporated (AFL), Cirrus Logic, Inc. (CRUS), Cypress Semiconductor Corporation (CY) and Amazon.com, Inc. (AMZN).

Tomorrow morning before the open, Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co. (GT), Ruth's Hospitality Group, Inc. (RUTH), Bloomin' Brands (BLMN), The Hershey Company (HSY), MasterCard Incorporated (MA), CBOE Holdings (CBOE), Chevron Corporation (CVX), ImmunoGen, Inc. (IMGN), Legg Mason Inc. (LM), Phillips 66 (PSX), The Royal Bank of Scotland Group plc (RBS) and Exxon Mobil Corporation (XOM) are expected to report.

AAPL began to rebuild after scraping low-113 from a scarring earnings report, ending the emotional day down 2.25% on gigantic volume, yet in far better shape than it started. AAPL opened down at 114.17 to huge volume and dipped to an intra-day low of 113.31 on massive volume before the rebuilding kicked in on giant volume and AAPL subsequently bounced back to 114 within a 10-minute window. AAPL continued to heal throughout the morning on strong volume and began lunchtime near 115, putting in an intra-day peak of 115.70 at 12:54pm on moderate volume as lunch plates were getting cleared. After lunch, AAPL dipped back below 115 on moderate volume and slowly gained steam back above 115 towards the close, ending the day with a small pop into the mid-115 area. Ultimately, AAPL ended the day down 2.66 at 115.59 and dropped 5 cents in after-hours to 115.54.

This morning in pre-market, AAPL opened up in the mid to upper-115 area in conjunction with Futures and set a pre-market high of 115.95 at 6:39am before dipping back towards mid-115. AAPL is currently up 3 cents at 115.62 as we approach the open and wait to "tune in" to the AAPL new product event.
