Apple Today 1/20/2017 OPEX (AAPL)

Good Morning,

S&P Futures are up 5 with +8 Fair Value, NASDAQ Futures are up 13 with +20 Fair Value and Dow Futures are up 15 as we land on 2017 Leap OPEX and await the 45th inauguration at noon.

Today's light economic calendar takes a back seat to the inauguration but includes Fed's Harker Speech this morning and Baker-Hughes Rig Count and a speech from Fed's Williams this afternoon.

The big earnings winner is Skyworks Solutions, Inc. (SWKS), up over 7%. Also beating expectations, Citizens Financial Group (CFG) is up over 2%. On the other hand, American Express Company (AXP) is down nearly 2%, International Business Machines Corporation (IBM) is down nearly 1% and General Electric Company (GE) is down over 1.5%.

Futures were up slightly in early morning and continued to gain steam until 6:30am before pulling back slightly and are near the highs as we approach the open.

Asian markets ended mixed. China gained 0.70%, Hong Kong dropped 0.71% and Japan went up 0.34%. European markets are mostly up. The UK is down 0.01%, Germany is up 0.10% and France is up 0.27%.

Commodities are mixed this morning. Oil is up 1.44%, natural gas is down 1.96% and gold is up 0.12%. Unleaded gas is up 1.95% and heating oil is up 1.31%. Metals are mixed, goal and platinum are up while silver and copper are down. Meats are up. Coffee, cotton and corn are up while cocoa, wheat and soybeans are down.

Market gains across sectors ahead of inauguration. Dollar grinds higher.

International Business Machines Corporation (IBM) reported Q4 results yesterday afternoon and is down nearly 1% in pre-market. American Express Company (AXP) announced Q4 results with an 8% drop in profit compared to the same period last year, missing expectations and is down nearly 2%. Skyworks Solutions, Inc. (SWKS) reported Q1 results with adjusted earnings of $1.61 per share that beat expectations and is up over 7%.

General Electric Company (GE) reported Q4 results this morning with a miss in revenue and is down over 1.5%. Regions Financial Corporation (RF) is up slightly after reporting Q4 results with adjusted earnings of 24 cents per share that topped expectations. Citizens Financial Group (CFG) announced Q4 results with a profit of 55 cents per share that beat expectations and is up over 2%.

On Monday morning before the open, look out for earnings from Halliburton Company (HAL) and McDonald's Corporation (MCD).

AAPL hit the 120 backboard and swished down 0.18% on low volume. AAPL opened at 119.40 to high volume and immediately set an intra-day low of 119.38 before shooting upto the upper 119-area on strong volume in the morning and peaking at 11:44am on mild volume ahead of lunchtime. AAPL drifted lower after lunch on low volume and headed towards 119.5 before bouncing sharply at the end of the day on high volume and then dipping into the close. AAPL ended the day down 21 cents to 119.78 and gained 5 cents in after-hours to119.83.

This morning in pre-market, AAPL opened higher in conjunction with Futures and ran up to a pre-market high of 120.24 on a combination of strong earninigs from Skyworks (SWKS) and Munster comments before settling slightly. AAPL is currently up 34 cents at 120.12 as we approach the open.
