Apple Today 1/23/2017 (AAPL)

Good Morning,

Welcome back. S&P Futures are down 5 with -5 Fair Value, NASDAQ Futures are down 11 with -12 Fair Value and Dow Futures are down 23 on this Monday after Leap OPEX. Samsung is blaming poorly designed and manufactured batteries for the overheating problems that caused some of its Galaxy Note 7 phones to catch fire. The US dollar is losing ground against major currencies in the wake of the inauguration.

There is nothing much of significance on today's economic calendar but after reporting earnings, Halliburton Company (HAL) is down over 1% and McDonald's Corporation (MCD) is down over 0.5%.

Futures were down in early morning and hit lows near 3:15am before bouncing back and then faded and are off the lows as we approach the open.

Asian markets ended mixed. China gained 0.44%, Hong Kong went up 0.06% and Japan dropped 1.29%. European markets are down. Germany is down 0.49%, France is down 0.35% and the UK is leading the decline, down 0.66%.

Commodities are mixed this morning. Oil is down 1.39%, natural gas is down 0.19% and gold is up 0.44%. Unleaded gas is up 0.13% and heating oil is down 1.05%. Metals are up. Meats are mixed. Cocoa, coffee, cotton and wheat are up while corn and soybeans are down.

Stocks fluctuate along with bonds at the open.

Halliburton Company (HAL) reported Q4 results this morning with an adjusted earnings of 4 cents per share that beat expectations and is down over 1% in pre-market. McDonald's Corporation (MCD) is down over 0.5% after announcing Q4 earnings with a 2.7% global rise in sales counteracted with a domestic drop of 1.3%.

This afternoon after the bell, look out for earnings from LG Display Co., Ltd. (LPL).

Tomorrow morning before the open, Alcoa, Inc. (AA), Johnson & Johnson (JNJ), The Travelers Companies, Inc. (TRV), Verizon Communications (VZ), Kimberly-Clark Corporation (KMB), E. I. du Pont de Nemours and Company (DuPont) (DD), Corning Inc. (GLW), Janus Capital Group Inc. (JNS), Lockheed Martin (LMT), 3M Company (MMM), Logitech International S.A. (LOGI), Seagate Technology (STX), Alibaba Group Holding Limited (BABA) are expected to report.

A leading bullish BABA trade strategy is: When the 11 SMA is Above the 45 DEMA AND the 12 SMA is Above the 48 DEMA, daily bars.

AAPL had a solid, if short inauguration week, up 0.82% on low volume. On Tuesday, AAPL showed a mountain of strength towards 120, ending up 0.81% on higher than average volume. On Wednesday, AAPL bounced up and down on the 120 trampoline, ending down 0.01% on low volume. On Thursday, AAPL hit the 120 backboard and swished down 0.18% on low volume. On Leap OPEX Friday, AAPL ended up 0.18% on low volume. AAPL opened up at 120.45 to high volume and immediately set an intra-day high of 120.45 on high volume before slipping towards 120 at 10am on mild volume and bouncing back into the low-120 area ahead of lunch on low volume. AAPL slipped during lunch and hit a low of 119.73 in the afternoon at 2:38 on low volume before bouncing back into the close on moderate volume. AAPL ended the day up 22 cents to 120 on the button and gained 4 cents in after-hours to 120.04.

This morning in pre-market, AAPL opened lower in conjunction with Futures and scraped a pre-market low of 119.50 at 4:09am before fighting back in to the upper-119 area among buzz of a $1 billion dollar lawsuit against Qualcomm (QCOM). AAPL is currently down 18 cents at 119.82 as we approach the open.
