Apple Today 4/17/2017 (AAPL)

Good Morning,

Welcome back. S&P Futures are up 4 with +6 Fair Value, NASDAQ Futures are up 12 with +18 Fair Value and Dow Futures are up 47 on this post-Easter Monday as a very strong GDP report indicates the Chinese economy is up 6.9% from a year earlier. Techwise, according to the DMV, Apple has secured a permit to test autonomous vehicles in California, fueling speculation that it is still working on a self-driving car. Bitcoin is in the mid-1,185 area, down from the 1,230 highs from early last week but up from the sudden 1,160 lows seen mid-week.

This morning's Economic Calendar includes: Empire State Mfg Survey and NAHB Housing Market Index followed by Treasury International Capital this afternoon and a speech from Stanley Fischer this evening.

Futures were down in early morning, scraped lows at 5:30am and then popped up sharply an hour later and are at the highs as we approach the open.

Asian markets ended mixed. China dropped 0.74%, Hong Kong was closed for Easter Monday and Japan dropped 0.68%. European markets are closed for holiday.

Commodities are mixed this morning. Oil is up 0.26%, natural gas is down 1.95% and gold is down 0.15%. Unleaded gas is up 0.05% and heating oil is up 0.01%. Metals are mixed, copper and platinum are up while gold and silver are down. Meats are up. Coffee and cotton are up while cocoa, corn, wheat and soybeans are down.

Steel, stimulus drive China's strongest economic growth since 2015. Oil recoups losses, but US oil output growth weighs.

This afternoon after the bell, look out for earnings from Netflix, Inc. (NFLX), Barracuda Networks, Inc (CUDA)

Tomorrow morning before the open, Omnicom Group Inc. (OMC), GNC Holdings, Inc. (GNC), Bank of America Corporation (BAC), Regions Financial Corporation (RF), Goldman Sachs Group Inc. (GS), Harley-Davidson, Inc. (HOG), Johnson & Johnson (JNJ), UnitedHealth Group Inc. (UNH) are expected to report.

A leading Bullish NFLX trade strategy is: When the 20 EMA is Below the 50 EMA AND the 9 SMA is Above the 26 DEMA, daily bars.

AAPL had a rough short week, ending down 1.6% on low volume. On Monday, AAPL spilled below 143, ending down 0.14% on low volume. On Tuesday, the AAPL milk may have spilled... but there was no need to cry just yet as AAPL bounced off 140, ending down 1.08% on higher than average volume. On Wednesday, AAPL went fishing below the 141.5 water line... ending up 0.12% on lower than average volume.

On Thursday, AAPL landed the OPEX chopper down at 141, down 0.53% on light volume. AAPL opened up at 141.91 to high volume and dipped to the mid-141 area on mild volume at 9:44am before bouncing back into the low-142 area later in the morning and set an intra-day high of 142.38 at 11:03am on low volume before slipping below 142 on low volume as lunch was ending. AAPL held onto 142 through the afternoon and sold off sharply into the close on strong volume. AAPL ended the day down 75 cents at 141.05 and remained flat in after-hours at 141.05.

This morning in pre-market, AAPL opened higher contrary to Futures and soared to a pre-market high of 141.93 on renewed buzz of Apple working on a self-driving car project. AAPL is currently up 72 cents at 141.77 as we approach the open.
